When Exactly to Apply for PR Card Renewal

Hi,
I am a permenant Resident of Canada. I will complete my 730 days physical presense approx in May2014. My existing PR Card will also expire. in May2014. However i will be able to manage just little more than 730 days which is minimum requirement.
My Question is when exactly i have to apply for my PR Card Renewal? I heard they take 7-8 weeks(60 days) to get a new PR Card, does it mean i have to apply for my PR renewal in Feb2014? If i apply in Feb2014, my physical presence in canada will be only around 660 days by Feb2014, than how they will renew my PR Card considering min stay of 730 days is required. If i complete 730 days stay and than apply for renewal in May2014, CIC will take 60 days to process the application and expiry date on my PR card is May2014. Please guide what is to be done?

Thanks and Regards

Hello,

Thanks for sharing your situation and question with us. We can appreciate that you would be concerned about this situation.

Your User ID indicates that you are in Mississauga.

In terms of trying to renew your PR card when you have not met your residency requirements, you can find some very detailed information on this in the the CIC ENF 27 Permanent Resident Card Operations Manual, in the 8.7. Procedures for special referral situations - Discrepancies in residency obligations. Here is an excerpt,

It is also important to note that you cannot apply to renew a PR card from outside Canada.

According to the ENF 27 Permanent Resident Card manual,

Some of our users have reported that they have been able to contact CIC recently from abroad by dialing 1 613 944 4000. Listen to the options to get to CIC.

Long distance charges will apply.

Trying to present H&C grounds related to permanent residency can be complicated. We suggest that you may also want to contact a lawyer who is familiar with Canadian immigration issues for some assistance.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

Hi, I arrived in Canada on 10th September 2010. The PR card arrived later and is valid from 14th October 2010 to 14th October 2015.
My question is, I can fulfill the 730 days of physical presence before the card expires, but if the five year period is calculated from 10th September, I miss out on 10 days. Will this pose a problem.

please reply

Hi this is Subhashini again. Our delay was because my mother was not well and she passed away in November. There was no one else to look after her as I was only child, can we forward this as for humanitarian grounds. Would greatly appreciate a quick reply

Thank you for the reply,

Actually I am currently here in Canada and didn’t have any problem in entering the country. I was so under the false impression that I could make up the 730 days before the card expires. SO will i be able to appeal when I apply for renewal as I cannot make up for the time between the day I entered Canada and five years hence. I complete the five years on 10th September but my card is valid till October.
