Unemployed - How can I Sponsor my Spouse?

I’m a canadian citizen living in the US.

I want to sponsor my spouse to come to canada with me, but the only problem is that i’m not working. my spouse is out of status in the US, but still working.

My spouse is from Nigeria.

please i need help.

It states,

If you are a Canadian citizen not residing in Canada, you may sponsor your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner and/or dependent children who have no dependent children of their own.

Here is an excerpt,

If I live outside Canada, may I sponsor?

If you are a Canadian citizen, you may sponsor a spouse, a common-law partner or conjugal partner, or a dependent child who has no children of his or her own. However, you must demonstrate that you will live in Canada when the sponsored person becomes a permanent resident.

You can find some detailed information regarding the process in the Guide 3900 - Sponsorship of a spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner or dependent child living outside Canada instruction guide.

You do not need a minimum income to sponsor a spouse. It does not affect the sponsorship. However, you are not eligible to sponsor if you receive financial assistance from the government, such as Ontario Works.
