Sponsoring while on EI

Hello,

I am sponsoring my spouse out of Canada. Currently am on EI, have been working since 2012. Started my EI from Nov 2016. Is EI a social assitance which would render me ineligible from sponsoring my spouse?

  1. No, EI is not social assistance, it is an insurance scheme where you pay in when you are working and collect when you are unemployed (depending on the no. of hours worked) It has no effect on a spousal sponsorship application.
