PRTD Application and Processing Time

Hi, my husband and I have already applied for our first PR card. My husband’s card has already arrived but mine is still in process and we don’t know why yet. We left after 1 month of staying because of work commitments. Its been almost 3 months since our application and we plan on going back ASAP.

Now, I was thinking of applying for PRTD. So, my queries are:

  1. How long is the processing time for PRTD
  2. For applying as Accompanying a permanent resident outside Canada, they say that we have to provide “documents showing the person you are accompanying meets the residency obligation”. What does residency obligation mean?

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

Regarding your first question,

You may want to check with the visa office that will process your PRTD.

Regarding your second question,

To meet these requirements, you can find some detailed information in the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) ENF 23 Loss of permanent resident status enforcement manual. Here is an excerpt,

and

You can also meet these requirements if your spouse or common-law partner is a Canadian Citizen.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

I applied for PRTD from Nigeria over 3months now because I lost my PR card on transit on my way to Nigeria, whenever I track the status online from the PR Portal its just showing submitted for over 3 months, please I need to know what to do about it… Thank you.

Hi there,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

For updates related to your specific case it is best that you contact IRCC using their web form. It may also be useful to note that processing time does not include the wait time before they receive the application, and starts once they receive a completed application. You may find it helpful to check processing times using the calculator on the IRCC website. It may also be helpful to seek the advice of a reputable and registered immigration consultant or an immigration lawyer about your situation.

If you find yourself in a position where you need to travel and do not yet have your PR card, you may also find helpful information in the Settlement.Org article, I need to leave Canada but do not have my PR card yet. What should I do?
We hope this information is helpful. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to post them here.

Sincerely,

Your Settlement.Org Team
