Mother Not Meeting Residency Requirements

Hello,

Here is a little background story-
My mother is a Permanent Resident of Canada.

But her PR card expired as of June 2017. She didn’t fulfill the required time to renew the status.

She was visiting me in 2017 from the month of June to October, and left for our home country as she has to take care of my grandmother.mentioning again, when she entered Canada in June 2017, she had a valid PR card, but when she left in October 2017, her PR card was expired.

I am now pregnant and due in May 2018, and want my mother to come to Canada and live with me as I need support and care.

Is there any way my mother can return to Canada even if her PR card has expired?

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be concerned about this.

You can find some information on the CIC website in the I am outside of Canada and do not have a PR card. How can I return to Canada? section.

Here is an excerpt,

You mentioned that your mother’s PR card has expired.

It is important to note that if she decides to apply for a Permanent Resident Travel Document (PRTD) at the nearest Canadian Visa Office, since she has not met her residency requirements, starting this process may also start the process to determine whether or not she has lost her PR status.

You may want to contact the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Call Centre directly for some information specific to your mother’s situation.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
