My question is does being in Canada under student visa or work permit (temporary resident I think) count towards the 730 days requirement when I renew my PR card for the FIRST time? If it does, do I apply the same calculation rule for citizenship (1 day only counts as 0.5 day)?
In other words, does the 730 days requirement to maintain PR status only starts counting after my PR card issue date?

The 5-year period is assessed on a rolling basis, starting from the date IRCC receives a completed application. This means that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will look back at your time in Canada over the previous 5 years from the date they receive your application. According to IRCC’s guide on how residency days are calculated:
For temporary residents, 1 day counts as one 0.5 day with a maximum credit of 365 days.
