Birth Certificates - Short and Long Forms

Hello,

My children’s passports expired while living in the USA.

They are aged 8 and 7.

I had misplaced their birth certificates and to apply for new passports, I applied for their birth certificates.

I paid for both the long form and the short form.

Instead I only received the certificate of live birth in the mail.

Can I use it to apply for passports?

Thank you,
