I am planning to travel alone to Philippines urgently and don’t have the PR card yet. My family and I landed in Toronto as immigrants last July 8, 2011 and until now we did not receive our PR cards. The CIC call centre agent told me that the problem is about the “photograph”. I was advised to apply for a Travel Document (Permanent Resident Abroad) IMM 5524 if I want to travel outside of Canada.
Is a Travel Document a guarantee that I could come back to Canada without any problem? Or would there be no problem during the process? I ask these questions because I heard a story of someone allegedly of the same case who was not able to come back and has to do the immigration process again.
Please advise as I have second thoughts of leaving.
My husband has applied from UAE for a travel document. We are due with our baby in the last week of August (which is the current month) and the Embassy is not able to tell him whether it will take 10 working days, 15 working days or a month.
It is really disturbing for new immigrants to get a hold of such policies and tiresome procedures. The PR travel document should ideally take 1-2 weeks max!! since all the info is the system already! any idea when he can get the PRTD? It has already been 10 days since he applied and they are saying it could take upto a month!
Can a moderator please reply to my query asap? Thanks!
