While Waiting for Renewal

Hi,
By end of December 2014, I would have fulfilled my 730 days, and my PR card expires in July 2014.

I understand that I can apply for renewal 6 months before expiry, so I am going to apply PR card renewal in January 2015. As I am going to visit my parents, I will be leaving in early Feb for a month. Two questions:

1. while waiting for processing, is it okay for me to travel as my card will be expire til in July 2015?

2. can i sent in my renewal first and leave the country as long as my card is valid when i return? or should I wait til I returned in March 2015, then renewal my PR card?

According to the guide,

Your PR Card

If you are applying to renew your present card, you should retain it until you receive your new card. If you are applying to replace a damaged card, send the damaged card with your application.

If you are asked to present yourself at a local CIC office, you must bring with you the previous card and the original documents of the copies you have included with your application. You will be asked to destroy your previous card once you receive the new one.

It may also be best to contact the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre directly for some additional information specific to your situation.
