Hello There,
We came to Canada in 2003.
My son will be graduating from high school.
We came as a Refugee. But it was denied.
Then we applied as humanitarian ground. We got accepted for the first stage.
We got our OHIP card based on that.
Right now we are staying in Canada as temp Resident.
So my question is my Son needs to go to university and if he goes to University, does he able to get any kind of government funding or could he be able to pay Resident fees.
Can you please let me know what should I do?
Hello,
Thank you for sharing your son’s situation and question with us.
According to the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada website in the Temporary resident permits: Work and study permits section,
Unfortunately, if someone is studying in Canada using a study permit (for example, foreign students), they are not eligible for OSAP. However, they may be eligible for financial assistance from their college or university.
You can find some detailed information in our Settlement.Org Who is eligible for the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)? article.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
