Undo Marriage

Hi,

I’m a Canadian citizen currently residing in Indonesia with my husband who is a permanent resident of Canada. We got married in 2014 in Toronto.

We are now residing in Indonesia for a little over a year and things are not working out. Since we first arrived, we never registered our marriage at the local civil registry. Therefore our marriage is not recognized in Indonesia.

I read that there is an exception for this situation that we could undo our marriage. What will be the steps to proceed?

Any info is appreciated!

It sounds like you’re asking about having your marriage annulled. You can find out more about who qualifies for annulments here: http://www.canadiandivorcelaws.com/annulment/

Based on the information you have provided, you don’t qualify to get your marriage annulled and would have to get a divorce.
