Schools for my children

Hi,

We will be moving in 3 months to Canada under federal skilled worker and our port of entry is Toronto.

Since my brothers live in montreal, I intend to stay with them till my husband packs up back home and move to Canada.

Now my question is since I will be loving with my brothers 4for approx 1 year, can my kids go to English school in Laval area and will I be able to get health cards or not.

So far what I have read is that we require csq for any services in Quebec.

Kindly clarify.

The following information is from the Immigration Quebec website:

Procedure for applying for admission In order for your child to attend a school, you must first apply for admission at your local school board. You will be required to provide originals or certified copies of the following documents:

• Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ - Québec Selection Certificate) - Confirmation of permanent resident status (issued by Canadian authorities) - Passport - Birth certificate - Report cards, if any.
  Depending on the situation, either the school board or the parents register the child. If you are required to register your child, the school board will provide you with the necessary registration forms and the contact information for the school.

Each year, school boards issue a public notice regarding admission applications. The registration period begins in February or in March, for the school year beginning a few months later, usually at the end of August. Although you can apply at any time, it is generally recommended that you register your child for preschool (kindergarten) before the end of June.

There are special considerations for children to attend school in English. You can find information about this on the Quebec Ministry of Education website and the English School Boards Association website.
