PRTD - Proof of spouse residency in Canada immediately before the application

My wife PR expired in 2018. She has been living outside Canada since 2013 with me a Canadian citizen in India. Due to her job she could not stay in Canada for 730 days and we did not know that living with Canadian citizen overseas was counted for PR renewal. Now she is retired and wants to renew PR card for which she needs PRTD.
We have filled the PRTD form online and uploaded the forms.
FYI I have visited Canada once during last 5 years. Stayed for around 1 month. My Canada passport has no stamps to prove it.
Need to know what is - Proof of souse residency in Canada immediately before the application? What is required to upload for this question?
What is - Supplementary Travel log? What is required to upload for this question?

Do we need to respond to the above question or ignore it?

Hi there,

Thank you for sharing your question and situation with us. We appreciate your interest in this information.

Proof of residency documents should illustrate the time you spent in Canada, you can provide tax documents, a letter from your employer stating your duration of work, a lease agreement, utility bills to help provide context for your stay.

Here are some acceptable documents you can include:

Supporting documents showing that you meet the residency obligation

  • You must provide copies of 2 pieces of evidence that can show you have met the residency in Canada in the five (5) years immediately before the application, or since becoming a PR if it has been less than 5 years. Some examples include:
    • employment records or pay stubs;
    • bank statements;
    • Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Notice of Assessment for the five (5) years immediately before the application
    • evidence that you received benefits from Canadian government programs;
    • rental agreements;
    • club memberships;
    • or any other documents that prove you met your residency obligation.

It is possible that hotel receipts along with banking documents can illustrate your time spent in Canada, and help prove your visit, but it would be best to confirm this information with IRCC using the web form or by making a phone call to their call centre.

You can find more information on this in Appendix A of the PR Card application guide.

A supplementary travel log helps IRCC calculate the days you have been in Canada and out of Canada over the past 5 years.

What to record

  • The date you left and the date you came back to Canada, even if it’s the same day
  • Countries you visited
  • Why you left – give examples like vacation, work, family, etc.
  • Include any day trips (less than 24 hours), including to the United States
  • When the journal is full, keep it safe and print a new copy

You can find a downloadable travel log and additional tips in the IRCC article on recording your trips outside Canada. You can also find detailed information about the renewal process in the Guide IMM 5445 - Applying for a permanent resident card (PR card). In this guide, you may find the β€œTime Spent Outside of Canada” chart to be particularly helpful. The Guide IMM5529 is about the PRTD process for your reference. It is best to contact IRCC directly for advice specific to your situation, but we hope you find this information helpful. Please follow up with us if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,

Your Settlement.Org Team
