PR renewal and travelling

My PR card is expiring in Feb 2023 and I am travelling out of Canada in September for 2 months.

My question is If I apply for renewal today and receive new PR card while I am still out of Canada , can I travel back to Canada with old PR card which is still valid till Feb 2023?

What are my options here?

  1. Travel on old PR card
  2. Issue PRTD from visiting country
  3. Have someone send my PR card to me out of Canada(I dont want to rely on this)

TIA

Hi there,

Thank you for sharing your question and situation with us. If your PR card is still valid during your travels, then you may still use it to enter the country. If it expires while you’re abroad you may want to consider getting a Permanent Resident Travel Document.

In terms of leaving Canada, you can find some helpful information in the Settlement.Org article, I need to leave Canada but do not have my PR card, what should I do?
