I would like to continue my landing in Canada/Toronto.
Since I am a newcomer to Canada, I do not have a permanent address.
I also do not have any family or friends who I can provide their address.
I read on CIC’s website that for new PRs “it may be appropriate for clients to provide the address of a third party (friend, relative, service provider or a paid representative)”.
Who are the service providers?
Can a UPS mailbox (the street address mailing address and not the POBox) be considered under this category?
I am planning to stay for 3 months in a hotel apartment. Can I provide the address of the hotel apartment?
But what if I don’t receive the PR card before the 3 months end?
Thank you for sharing your situation and questions with us.
According to several CIC representatives, “service providers” can refer to someone at a community service/centre or settlement service.
In terms of providing the hotel address, it was suggested that since you will be staying there for at least 3 months, you may want to ask the officer upon arrival, if it is possible for you to provide this address since you will be staying there for an extended period.
It is also important to note that If you did not provide your mailing address to CIC at the point of entry, do so as soon as possible. You can update your address online or you can contact the CIC Call Centre at 1-888-242-2100.
If you do not provide Citizenship and Immigration Canada your address within 180 days of the date of your admission, you will need to reapply for your PR Card and pay the applicable fee.
I really appreciate your reply.
Is there a list of the community service/centre or settlement service that offer this service of providing me with a mailing address?
And this means I cannot use the UPS mailbox whose address is a street address and not a POBox address?
You can find some information regarding what type of settlement services and community agencies are available by using our Settlement.OrgServices Near Me section.
You will have to contact them directly to find out if this is a service they can provide you.
We do not have information regarding which settlement service providing agencies would provide this service.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
I am planning on moving to Canada as PR and staying with my brother and sister in law. How do I prove that this is my address to obtain things like the OHIP card? Obviously, i will not be on their mortgage or utility bills. What other documentation could I get whilst in Canada that would be proof of address, that you do not need a proof of address to get?
