Assessing your eligibility

To be eligible for a PR card, you must:

• be a permanent resident of Canada- be physically present in Canada- meet the residency requirement (see Appendix A – Residency obligation)- not be under an effective removal order- not be a Canadian citizen and- not be convicted of an offense related to the misuse of a PR card

If you decide to leave Canada without a PR card, you may want to look at some information related to returning to Canada.

You can find some information on the IRCC website in the I need to leave Canada and I do not have a permanent resident card. Can I later return to Canada without a PR card? section.
