I would like to know whether the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) can cover me or not.
The landlord told me that he can have access to enter and to inspect my room anytime. Thus, I feel my room is not for me, and I think I have no privacy. (actually, he entered my room for inspecting cleaning status a few times without notice)
Here are my contract situations
live in the same unit with the landlord.
Rent a master bedroom with contained bathroom (bathroom is only for me)
have the privilege to use a kitchen
Just use a refrigerator in a kitchen
I know that the Act does not apply if the tenant must share a kitchen or bathroom with the landlord.
However, I don’t need to have to use the kitchen. Also, I don’t share the bathroom with the landlord. So I think that I may be covered by the RTA.
This is an interactive web tool to help people in different kinds of shared rental arrangements find out which laws apply to their situation and what their rights and responsibilities are.
You may also want to contact the nearest Community Legal Clinic for some assistance and information specific to your situation.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
