Doctor's fees during implied status

A colleague on implied status for work permit had to see a doctor urgently. Will she be able to claim reimbursement for the amount spent on doctor’s fee/medicines once she is issued a work permit and OHIP card? She has maintained her TRP status.

Hi there,

Thank you for sharing your question and situation with us. We appreciate your interest in this information.

If your friend was charged for a medical service while covered by OHIP, they may want to contact the clinic directly, and provide their OHIP card details asking the clinic to submit the claim to OHIP for retroactive payment. If the clinic is able to bill OHIP, they should refund your friend for the amount they paid. It may also be helpful to connect with Service Ontario’s INFOline at 1-866-532-3161 for advice specific to your situation.

Without OHIP, you may be interested in exploring low-cost care and private health insurance options for accessing care.

You can also call TeleHealth Ontario for advice, Telehealth Ontario is a free, confidential service you can call to get health advice or information. A Registered Nurse will take your call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Assistance is available in more than 300 languages. When you call Telehealth, tell them what language you speak and you will be connected to an interpreter.
