Hi i have finished grade 12 in april from india and have been accpeted to the university of toronto st george campus for the session 2015-19.
I am a permanent resident the card ( 2013 -2018 )
I want to ask that if i complete my three years ( 1095 days ) for citizenship after the expiry ie:2018 around 2019 will i be still eligible for citizenship or will have to stay again for 3 years starting my pr renewal period of 2018-2023 .
Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.
As you may know, in order to meet the permanent residency requirements, you must be physically present in Canada for at least 730 days (2 years) in every 5-year period.
This means that you can spend a total of up to 3 years outside of Canada during a 5-year period.
Please note that the expiry date on your PR card has no correlation to whether or not you have met your residency requirements.
Regardless of what the date of expiry is on your PR card, these are the requirements you need to meet in order to be eligible to apply for Citizenship:
It is important to note that these requirements will be changing. By the time you may be eligible to apply for citizenship, they may be different. You can find some information on the changes CitizenshipCounts.ca - Changes To The Canadian Citizenship Act infographic.
