Hello,
My parents will apply for PRTD but the thing is their passports all expired.
Back in my home country, they don’t allow to renew unless you prove you have withdrawn the PR status in Canada (because only 1 citizenship is permitted in my home country).
Are there any cases who have applied PRTD with an expired passport or even without providing passport? Anything similar to my situation?
Although the checklist stated it clearly as “6. Original and valid passport”, would it be a good idea if I’m providing my parents’ expired passports with an explanation letter with the application package?
Thanks
Hello,
Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.
We can appreciate that you would be concerned about this situation.
You mentioned that the country of your parents’ passports only allows one citizenship. As your parents do not have Canadian Citizenship yet and instead permanent residence, you may want to speak to a Lawyer in the country of which your parents have a passport for to find out what the options are in terms of renewing a passport and to confirm whether or not this applies to those who have permanent residence in another country.
We suggest that it is important and probably best that you speak to a Lawyer who is familiar with Canadian immigration issues for additional information regarding your family’s situation.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
