Log in and Registration Questions
Why can’t I log in?
If you’re having trouble logging in, try the following steps:
- Existing Users: Log in using your existing username and password. If your account is connected to a Google or Microsoft email address, you also have the option to use their pass-key feature for authentication.
- Forgotten Password: If you’ve forgotten your password, use the “Forgot Password?” link on the login page to reset it.

How do I register for an account?
- Click on the “Sign Up” option located at the top right corner of the page.
- Fill out the registration form with your details.
- Check your email for a verification message and follow the instructions to confirm your email address.
- Once verified, you can log in using your email address or username and password.
I’ve lost my password!
Click on the “I forgot my password” link on the login page and follow the instructions to reset your password. If you’re still having trouble accessing your account, contact our Moderator at moderator@ocasi.org for help.
I registered but cannot log in!
Confirm you are entering the correct username and password. New registrations require email verification before you can log in. Check your email for a verification message from Discourse and follow the instructions to activate your account. If you didn’t receive the email, please check your spam folder. For help, contact our Moderator at moderator@ocasi.org.
I registered in the past but cannot log in anymore?
Search your inbox for an email from “Settlement.Org Discussion Forum” to find your username and reset your password. If you still cannot access your account, please contact our Moderator at moderator@ocasi.org for help.
How do I add a passkey or enable two-factor authentication for my account?
Passkeys and two-factor authentication add extra security to your account. To set this up:
- Log in to your account.
- Click on your user avatar in the top-right corner of the screen.
- From the drop-down menu, select the
icon at the bottom to access your user settings.
- Choose
Preferences, then select
Security.
- Here, you’ll find options to add a Passkey and/or enable Two-Factor Authentication for your account.

How do I change my settings?
To adjust your settings:
- Click on your user avatar in the top-right corner of the screen.
- From the drop-down menu, select the
icon at the bottom to access your user settings.
- Here, you can update your security settings and password, customize your profile, adjust email and notification preferences, and more.
How do I add or change my profile picture?
To update your profile picture:
- Click on your user avatar in the top-right corner of the screen.
- Select the
icon at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
- Choose
Preferences, then select
Account under Preferences.
- From there, you can upload or change your profile picture.
How can I customize my profile?
To customize your profile:
- Click on your user avatar in the top-right corner of the screen.
- Select the
icon from the drop-down menu.
- Go to
Preferences, then choose
Profile under Preferences.
- Here, you can add a biography, location, website link, and profile header. You can also feature a forum topic and add your birthday.
- Don’t forget to click “Save Changes” at the bottom of the page when you’re finished.
Posting Issues
How do I post a topic in a forum?
To start a new topic:
- Click the
New Topic button on the right side of the page.
- Enter your title, select a category, and use the text box to write your post.
- You can also add tags to help others find content related to your topic.
How do I edit or delete a post?
Once a post is approved, it cannot be edited or deleted by users. Only forum administrators or moderators have the authority to make changes. Requests for edits or deletion can be made by e-mailing the Moderator at moderator@ocasi.org.
I can’t add attachments. What should I do?
While you can’t attach files like Word documents or PDFs directly, you can:
- Link to external websites.
- Upload images of the file you wish to share.
Does my post need to be approved?
Yes, all posts require moderator review before they are published. If you have questions about your post’s status, please contact the Moderator at moderator@ocasi.org.
User Levels and Interactions
What are Administrators?
Administrators are assigned with the highest level of responsibility over the entire forum. They manage permissions, user bans, and the creation of user groups or moderators, among other responsibilities. They also have full moderator capabilities across all forums.
What are Moderators?
Moderators oversee daily forum operations. They can edit or delete posts, and manage topics within the forums they moderate. Their role includes preventing off-topic discussions and moderating content to ensure it adheres to community guidelines.
How do I block or mute a user?
To block or mute a user:
- Click on your user avatar in the top-right corner.
- Select the
icon from the drop-down menu.
- Go to
Preferences, then select
Users.
- You can choose to either Ignore (suppress all posts, messages, and notifications) or Mute (suppress notifications, personal messages, and chat direct messages) the user by adding their username to your list of Ignored or Muted Users.

Topic Subscriptions and Bookmarks
How do I subscribe to specific forums or topics?
To subscribe to a forum or topic:
- Click the
button on the right side of the page to set your notification preferences for the forum.
- For a specific topic, click the
button below the first entry in the topic thread to customize your notifications for that thread.
How do I remove my subscriptions?
To manage your subscriptions:
- Click on your user avatar in the top-right corner.
- Select the
icon from the drop-down menu.
- Go to
Preferences, then click
Notifications.
- Select
Tracking to view and adjust the forums and topics you are subscribed to.
