# Sponsorship of Another Spouse

Dear [Settlement.org](http://Settlement.org),

I have previously sponsored a spouse, and we are now divorced. My ex-spouse never went to Canada, despite receiving a PR.

Is it the rule that it is a minimum of 3 years before I can sponsor someone else, if I choose to?

According to this [IRCC application guide on the Sponsorship process](https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/application-forms-guides/guide-5289-sponsor-your-spouse-common-law-partner-conjugal-partner-dependent-child-complete-guide.html#defaults), “you may not be able to sponsor if you are sponsoring a spouse or partner but you signed an undertaking for a previous spouse or partner and it hasn’t been three years since they became a permanent resident.”
