# Renewing PR and SIN card

Hi,
I’ll be flying back to Canada on the basis of a PRTD in June 2017.
My PR Card(issued in Vancouver) had expired in October 2013, I have a SIN card(starts with ‘7’) but it must be in dormant state as I didn’t use it after I moved back to India.
Me being a minor(9) when they(PR and SIN cards) were issued doesn’t make any difference right ?
I wanted to know, for renewing my PR card, do I need to be physically present in Canada ?
Can’t I file the PR renewal application(IMM5444E) 2-months before going to Canada ie in April or May 2017 ? and upon reaching collect my card.
My aunt lives in Vancouver, can I provide her address in the application form ?
And later collect it from her ?
The CIC website states that I need to mail/courier the IMM5444E form to Sydney, Nova Scotia([http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/canada/sydney.asp](http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/canada/sydney.asp)) !! Is it the only choice I have, even If I decide to renew the PR card while physically being present in Canada.
I need the PR card to be renewed when I return to Canada, So that I can apply for reactivating my SIN card. This way I can try to find work as soon as possible. And reactivating SIN card is not possible without a PR card.
I’ve read(on this website) that PR takes more than 93 days to get renewed and sometimes upto 6 moths, how will I manage to stay without work for such a long time, If I need to be physically present in Canada to renew it 😕
By the way, How long does it take to renew a SIN card ?

You cannot apply to renew a PR card from outside Canada.
According to the [ENF 27 Permanent Resident Card](http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/enf/enf27-eng.pdf) manual,

As stated in the previous reply, you cannot apply to renew a PR card from outside Canada.

Yes, you can. You are required to provide a **Canadian** Address.

We have contacted the [Service Canada - (Social Insurance Number line)](http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/common/contactus/index.shtml#sin) directly for some information on this type of situation.
According to a Service Canada Representative, yes, it _may_ be the case that your SIN has a “dormant” flag in your file. In these cases, _you can still use your SIN number_ however, you cannot use it for the _online services_.
They stated that SIN numbers may be flagged as dormant when there is no activity recorded with the number for more than 5 years.
In order to re-activate it, they suggested that you go into the nearest [Service Canada](http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/cgi-bin/sc-srch.cgi?cmd=lst&pv=on&ln=eng) office and complete a questionnaire from the SIN Registry that they will provide.
You will be asked to present some identification such as a Canadian Birth Certificate, Canadian Citizenship Card/Certificate, PR Card, Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) etc.
You may want to also contact [Service Canada - (Social Insurance Number line)](http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/common/contactus/index.shtml#sin) directly to verify this information and for some information on this your situation.

Can’t I use my Indian passport for identification ? If not that, will my expired PR card count ?
Another thing, This is what my COPR looks like(the format) [http://www.go-to-quebec.net/page/imm5292.jpg](http://www.go-to-quebec.net/page/imm5292.jpg) This isn’t exactly like mine, but it kind of resembles it.
There’s a -B written on the top right corner and IMM 5292 (CON) B (06-2004) written on the bottom left of my COPR.
Will it work as a proof of identity ?
