It’s been 3 years since I moved to Canada and 3 years since I sent off my application for PR. (fully paid)
Dec '13- Sent off application pack
July '14- Package marked as received
July '14- Sponsors portion begins process

No changes at ALL since July '14. Spoke with CIC multiple times until finding out they had part of my app as “outland” and part “inland” got that changed.
No changes on ANYTHING until March '16 when they asked for a medical, because again even though I had one already submitted they only had pieces in the file. Another 200$ gone.
Got that completed and sent in. FINALLY 6 June '16 email stating sponsor portion is done and I am cleared to apply.
9 June '16 decision made on PR email received. States will be contacted to make appt. in Etobicoke

My questions are these: How long before I can expect an appt? Will I be notified vis email or paper mail? Can I just go to the border and do this?

```
                                    Can I claim "settler" on importing my car and will be absolved of paying import fees and provincial taxes? I will keep a US address with my US plated vehicle and US insurance (my husband is Can. mil so US insure. covers me here) so do I have to Export my vehicle from the US anyway? Or do I even have to import it at all? We may be leaving the country via military orders this time next year (back to a tour in the states)
```

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be interested in this type of information.

Unfortunately, it is difficult for us to provide a definitive timeline related to when you will be contacted or when an appointment will be set.

Regarding your questions about your car,

According to [Transport Canada](http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/motorvehiclesafety/safevehicles-importation-visitors-faq-1336.htm),

> [@](#):

> **Section 7(1)(b) of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act (MVSA)**, allows a visitor to temporarily enter Canada with a motor vehicle without complying with the MVSA if the vehicle is used only by a visitor to Canada or a person passing through Canada en route to another country.
>
> **Notes:**
>
> - You alone may use the vehicle.- Any change in your status, such as receiving permanent residency in Canada, may make your vehicle inadmissible and you will be required to export or destroy it.- You may not sell or gift the vehicle while in Canada.- The vehicle cannot remain in Canada longer than the time limits allowed under your temporary entry.

> **My status has changed from temporary to permanent resident while in Canada with my vehicle. How does that affect my vehicle?**
>
> If your vehicle is eligible for importation, you will need to formally declare the vehicle along with your personal effects to the Canada Border Services Agency and fulfill all import requirements.If your vehicle does not comply with the _Motor Vehicle Safety Act_, you must export or destroy it when your temporary entry status becomes permanent.

Here is an excerpt,

> [@](#):

> **Can I bring my vehicle to Canada?**
>
> **From the United States**
>
> Your vehicle must meet Canadian standards, even if it was manufactured for the United States (US). **Before** you try to import it, check if your vehicle is on the [list of vehicles admissible from the United States](http://findlink.at/riv) published by Transport Canada.
>
> At the border, you must inform US Customs that your vehicle will leave the US permanently. US Customs recommends that you [contact the port of crossing](http://findlink.at/portcrscon)directly to find out what documentation is required and their hours of operation.
>
> Read more information about [exporting a motor vehicle from the US](http://findlink.at/expcar).

You may want to contact the Canada Border Services Agency by dialing toll-free **1-800-461-9999** from within Canada or **1-506-636-5064** from outside Canada (long distance charges may apply) for some information regarding your situation.
