Hello,

the hallways in our building are very cold. I have a thermometer and it showed the temperature at 11 celcius. I literally have to put a coat on just to go down the hall to the garbage or laundry rooms. That doesn’t seem right to me.

What are the rules about temperatures in common areas? I’ve not been able to find an answer anywhere online.

Thank you,
Chris.

> The Heating By-law is not applicable to common areas (hallways, stairwells, building entrances, etc). The By-law only applies to the dwelling unit. If there is heating equipment in common areas, so long as the equipment is in good working order (Property Standards By-law requirement), there is no minimum temperature that applies to these areas.

Why on earth is she shutting off your hot water? Is there not a way that you can turn it back on yourself or is this something that your landlord needs to do? I hope you’ve been able to get this situation fixed!
