I came in Canada with a 2 year work permit, have another 1.5 years left on it. I had applied for a spousal PR as my wife is Canadian. Now they asked me to send my passport to get the permanent residence visa sticker on it.
my question is, if I get the PR visa, will the work permit cancel by itself?
I am worried because my marriage is not going well and in case we get a divorce, what will be the status of the PR then? if the PR cancels out, then I wouldn’t have the Work permit too then.
is it like that or does the work permit stays valid for these 2 years.
They mentioned that you do not need to do anything regarding the work permit. Once you become a Permanent Resident, the Work Permit will become invalid.
If you get a divorce during your sponsorship application process, this will change the conditions of your sponsorship application. You will no longer meet the requirements for spousal sponsorship.
SINs that begin with a “9” are issued to temporary workers who are neither Canadian citizens nor permanent residents. It is likely that yours starts with a “9”. Once you become a permanent resident, you will no longer be a temporary worker.
